Specialist care, tailored to the individual.

Scoliosis is a three-dimensional (3D) rotational deformity of the spine, involving changes in the spine’s alignment in all body planes. It can affect children, adolescents and adults, and may lead to changes in posture, reduced spinal mobility, pain, muscle imbalance and, in some cases, progression of the spinal curve.

Early assessment and appropriate physiotherapy can help optimise posture, improve function, reduce pain and enhance quality of life. While physiotherapy cannot permanently alter skeletal structure in a mature spine, evidence supports scoliosis-specific exercise programmes in improving postural control, muscular endurance, body awareness and reducing the risk of progression in selected patients.

At Galway City Physiotherapy, our dedicated Scoliosis Clinic is led by Sharon Morris, Chartered Physiotherapist, who provides specialist assessment and evidence-based treatment using Physiotherapeutic Scoliosis-Specific Exercises (PSSE), including principles of the Rigo Concept. Treatment programmes are individually tailored to each person’s curve pattern, age, symptoms and functional goals.
