Galway City Physio provides a specialised pre and post pregnacy physio service to help women through the exciting but often challenging time of pregnancy and beyond. Physio can help with back/neck/leg pain related to pregnancy, pelvic girdle pain and pubic symphysis issues. We also address any pelvic floor and bladder control problems before and after delivery.

We provide a specific post-natal check-up called a Mummy MOT for post natal mothers to assess and treat the main areas at risk of dysfunction as a result of pregnancy and delivery. These can include the tummy and pelvic floor, any issues with incontinence, prolapse, diastasis rectus abdominis, perineal or Caesarian section scar management or painful intercourse.

Painful and tight scars, whether due to a Caesarian Section, an  episiotomy or perineal tears, can be difficult to manage. Your Physiotherapist will give you advice and tips on how to release the tension in these tissues.

We will be  check your pelvic floor muscles and abdominal / core strength. You will be given advice on when to return to exercise and what sort of exercise is appropriate. You may be ready to join one of our MOVE exercise rehabilitation classes for pre and post natal women.

We will also provide education on pain mechanisms, pain relief self-management strategies, pelvic floor relaxation strategies, general relaxation and breathing techniques, posture and movement advice, pelvic floor stretch and release techniques internally, dilator therapy if required and manual therapy for the muscles and joints of the spine and pelvis.
